“Pearl Jam is stupid but might save America…” I love my sister.
There. It’s out. And I am not sorry I said it. I think Pearl Jam is stupid. I am glad they came around when they did b/c they changed the face of alternative music forever. I get that. Their particular sound and the awful Cartman-Dick Cheneyish voice of the lead singer- (and no I don’t even know his name…and I don’t even care enough to google it right now for this stupid post)- it just doesn’t speak to me. With that said……… I think it is an important lesson for any kind of dramatic change desperately needed in any stagnant or stalled plateau in society. What I am trying to say, though not well….is that we need something to happen. Something to wake us up. Head in a new direction….
I hate waking up and feeling the doom and gloom is upon us and there is nothing we can do about it….except to wait….wait for it to hit us where it hurts….go after our homes….our kids….our family members who made bad decisions that you have to bail out. I don’t have to personally like who or what makes it happen….but we need something to change. I am not sure if just a new president is going to be enough. It does seem REALLY easy to blame the state of our financial situation all on the President b/c I feel like that lets some pretty big fish off the hook. However………..
It seems hard to believe Emma has spent most her life on this Earth living in a country at war. War. She is 6. We have been at war for 5 of those years. She was almost 3 months old for the September 11th attacks. Look where we are now. What is the rest of her childhood going to look like? What about my budding teenager? Do the schools even acknowledge the war? Is this war being shoved further under the rug in hopes that it will go away quietly? That we won’t notice b/c it is not here in our face? Look around folks. National financial ruin is not exactly quiet to me. How much do you think that dollar is worth in your wallet right now? Just b/c it looks like a dollar and smells like a dollar doesn’t make it automatically WORTH a dollar.
Soooooooooo basically….I think Pearl Jam is stupid…..but they might be the only ones who can stop the war in Iraq so I can sleep at night. Lead the revolution Pearl Jam- just don’t sing. Maybe Rilo Kiley can sing the theme song.
